WHAT ARE WE FUNDRAISING FOR?
The aims of this fundraising campaign is to raise money to be split evenly between the artists on the project (dancers, musicians, collaborators) and the Rosedale Park Community Organizations; North Rosedale Park Civic Association and the Rosedale Park Improvement Association
ARTIST FEES
During the pandemic, most dancers have lost most if not all of their sources of income with no immediate end in sight. They have been laid off, furloughed, or fired during this period and many have struggled to get on unemployment because of their freelancer status. By maintaining appropriate social distancing guidelines, many dancers will be unable to rehearse, perform, create, or teach which is their primary sources of income. Money raised in this gofundme will go directly to the ConteXture Dance Detroit dancers who are participating in the “Solace” project.
NEIGHBORHOOD ORGANIZATIONS FUNDS
The other half of funds raised will be split evenly between the North Rosedale Park Civic Association (NRPCA) and the Rosedale Park Improvement Association (RRIA). Funds for the NRPCA will help go towards their Legacy Project which helps offset the cost of renovation and programming for their community house. Funds for the RRIA will be used to help develop future programming for the community when social distancing guidelines permit it.
ABOUT THE ROSEDALE PARK COMMUNITIES
North Rosedale Park Civic Association and the Rosedale Park Improvement Association, both located in Northwest Detroit, are neighborhood groups which foster great city living. They work to preserve and enhance residential life through various programs, including recreation activities for adults and children, advocacy with local governments, social activities that foster neighborliness, and a variety of committees that address other concerns like safety and security, health and wellness, and home ownership issues.
ConteXture Artistic Director Tracy Halloran grew up in these neighborhoods and has fond memories of playing organized soccer and softball, ice skating on the community constructed outdoor rink, marching in parades, attending summer picnics, and seeing Santa and frosting cookies at the annual Christmas Pancake Breakfast.
