Malaak Aburahmeh, from Dearborn Heights, MI, is a BFA dance major and English Minor at Wayne State University with a full ride talent scholarship. Throughout her first year at WSU, she has worked with professors Dr. Ras Mikey Courtney, Lisa Wilmot, Hannah Anderson, Jessica Thomas, and Biba Bell. She has also had the opportunity to perform in guest artist works Ascending by Crystal Frazier, Chroma by Kylie Vinitski, and Idols in the Mix by Ponytail Derek.  Malaak has developed a passion for choreography while at Wayne through her creative opportunities in CompanyOne, a first year dance company under the direction of Lisa Wilmot. Alongside her peer, Nina, they created a duet titled, Peace Within Each Other which was selected to perform at the 2024 American College Dance Festival and also received a “Copperfoot” Choreography Award from the Maggie Allesee Department of Theatre and Dance. Malaak has participated in AFIntensive founded by Nygel Sejismundo where she has taken class from Kennedy Phelps, J. Gordy, Nikita Williams, Miguel Paredes, and Hillary Marie, amongst others. Malaak has grown into a teacher for youth dance students as she teaches weekly at Jeannie Zimbalatti’s School of Dance and has guest taught at various studios in the Metro-Detroit area. Most recently Malaak has been chosen to create a brand new work on the dance students at Novi High School this summer. This is Malaaks first season with ConteXture as an intern. She is excited to expand her knowledge and artistry with ConteXture.
